Neurological Diseases beyond Vata Dosha
Vata dosha is responsible for coordination and control of movements, activities and also carries information “to and fro” inside the body. Therefore whenever we talk about the nervous system in Ayurveda, because of this correlation – Vata comes in mind. And same is applicable on treatment too. Moment we talk about treatment of nervous system diseases, the only treatment plan comes in mind is- treatment of Vata dosha!!
Is it really so!!
Do we only need to look at Vata Dosha for the treatment of the condition?
Is there any role of the other two doshas too, in the process of treatment?
Most of the people are not aware about the accurate approach. Therefore they make mistakes in selection of treatment. Because of the fashion of using the medicines by themselves, many people starts using medicines by themselves. People just collect medicines according to online description and they just ruin their health.
Therefore this is important to understand the concept of Vata in accordance to neurological diseases.
Nothing is absolute
Many patients will come with a thought- “I am suffering with Vata Disease”! Because they collect some information from online articles, like one you are reading here.
I always wonder, what does it mean!!
Believe, human body is dynamic. It changes every moment. It transforms. And this process of change and transformation is a continuous process. Similarly dynamic are doshas.
Dominance of the doshas keeps on changing. And this change is so subtle- that when you hold your urine, it is Vata and once you urinate it is Pitta. You can say if we will have a chance to convert the famous heart sounds of “Lub-Dub” in Ayurvedic terms this will be “Vata-Pitta-Kapha”!!
So we need to understand that nothing is absolute. Neither the body nor the doshas and obviously diseases are also not absolute.
No condition cannot be- pure Vata or pure Kapha etc.
Yes, dominance is there. Therefore the diseases are classified as – Vataja, Pittaja and Kaphaja!! But we cannot and certainly should not ignore the recessive one.
This understanding helps in cure of the Parkinson’s disease, Fibromyalgia, and other neurological conditions.
Ayurveda is a science of computation and combinations
Ayurveda evolved as a combination of different schools of philosophy. And among this one is the science of digitalization- Sankhya!! Therefore, when we talk about Ayurveda, we talk more about numbers- 3, 5, 7, 13, and so on. The physiology and pathology according to Ayurveda is from the viewpoint of this computation only.
And the similar concept is applied when different combinations are formulated by Ayurvedic seers. There cannot be some medicine/formulation of Ayurveda which only comprises herbs that only pacify one dosha alone. These are balanced with different herbs. The concepts of modern pharmacology- Agonism and Antagonism are appreciated by Ayurveda while making these preparations. Because Ayurveda talks about prakriti-sam-samvet and vikrti-visham-samvet (เคชเฅเคฐเคเฅเคคเคฟเคธเคฎเคธเคฎเคตเฅเคค-เคตเคฟเคเฅเคคเคฟเคตเคฟเคทเคฎเคธเคฎเคตเฅเคค เคธเคฟเคฆเฅเคงเคพเคเคค) in detail.
The final word
So, when you are suffering from neurological disease. You need to look at all the doshas.
When you balance one, you should not imbalance rest two.
Don’t just buy and mix the herbs which pacify Vata. Because this cannot help in treating any disease. This is not only applicable with neurological diseases alone.
So without considering all the factors, one should never “mix-a-masala” for Doshas.
